マレーシア・クチンでの国際学会の報告（2014/09/07-12）

9月7日から12日まで、国際学会*1での発表のためマレーシアのクチンに行ってきました。本研究室からは中島先生と僕が、古米研からは古米先生含め4名が参加しました。
From 7th to 12th September, Nakajima Sensei and I attended an internation conference in Kuching, Malysia.

●学会での研究発表
参加したのはICUD（Internation Conference on Urban Drainage）という学会で、都市における雨水や排水の管理、評価についての研究発表が中心でした。中島先生と僕は、都市由来の汚染が底生生物に与える影響の評価に関する発表を行いました。
The conference we attended is entitled "ICUD; International Conference on Urban Drainage". Nakajima sensei and I made presentations on impact of urban pollution on benthic organisms.

上の写真は中島先生の発表の様子です。論理が明快で分かりやすく、また生き生きと発表される姿が印象的でした。普段聞けない先生方の発表を聞けることは、学会の醍醐味の一つですね。
I learned a lot from the presentation by Nakajima Sensei, in which he talked very cleary and lively. One value of attending conferences, I think, is the presentations by great and famous researchers.
●懇親会のようす
学会2日目には、ホテルでGala Dinnerが開かれました。なぜか寿司が出てました。2日目のGala Dinner以外も、日本からの参加者の方々らと毎日夕食会・飲み会にご一緒させて頂きました。
We joined a Gala Dinner held in a hotel near the conference venue. Besides Gala Dinner, we had a dinner with other participants every day.

●おまけ～学会発表後の観光～
「せっかくマレーシアまで来たのだから」とバコ国立公園を観光してきました。バコは、ボルネオ島の固有種であるテングザルが見られ、山歩きコースが充実している点が売りの国立公園です。
We visited Bako National Park for sightseeing. Bako National Park is famous for proboscis monkeys and trekking. Probscis monkeys are endemic to Borneo.

個人的には、マングローブを歩けるという点に惹かれました。底生生物を扱う身として、マングローブ・干潟を見ないわけにはいかないと思ったのですが、実際行ってみるとその生物量の多さには驚かされました。僕が対象にしているヨコエビは見られませんでしたが、大量のカニ（シオマネキ）やトビハゼがいました。他にも、ヒゲイノシシや鳥、トンボなど色々な生物が確認できました。
In Bako, we can walk in a tidal flat and a mangrove forest. I thought I can observe a lot of benthic organisms there. That's why we went to Bako. Actually I was surprised that quite a large amount of organisms, such as crabs and mudskippers, inhabited there.
*1:この記事では学会という言葉を、Society、つまり特定の人々の集団や組織という意味ではなく、ConferenceやMeeting、つまり発表会とか会議の意味で使っています。
UEHAS
修士１年、倉鍵です。

UEHASプログラムで4ヶ月間、山本研に交換留学に来ていたEarthさんがタイに帰られました。
The other day, Earth san, who had been in our laboratory for 4 months for the exchange student program of UEHAS, has gone back to Thailand.
僕は、彼が4月に来たときから、日本でのお世話をするチューターをしていましたが、
正直なところ彼が優秀で特に仕事がありませんでした（笑）
I was his tutor to take care of him in Japan. But he was such a good student as I had no work.
日本を楽んでいただけたでしょうか
I hope he did really enjoy this Japan stay.
先月25日（金）に山本研で送別会を開いた時の写真をアップします。
I'd like to upload the picture of the farewell party for him on 7/25(Fri).
8月5日（火）からは、当研究室からは僕と同じくM1の柳原が、
UEHASの短期留学で2週間ほど、タイのチュラロンコン大学に行きます。
Then, I and Ms.Yanagihara are going to visit Chulalongkorn University in Thailand for 2-week short-term program of UEHAS.
何ができるかわかりませんが、実のあるものになるように精一杯がんばりたいと思います。
We will do our best.

GC-MS maintenance part 3
GC-MS is a really troublemaker, but all problems with GC-MS was solved!
Large amount of water (m/z = 28) was detected, thus molecular sieve was heated with dryer for more than 1h. (This article is written in only Japanese.)
こんにちは、日置です。
GC-MSの問題がすべて解決し、ようやく、約3週間ぶりに普通に使用できるようになりました。
前回書いたように、水（m/z = 28）が検出されるという問題が生じていました。
水は通常、GCのモレキュラーシーブ（下の写真）で除去されています。

なので、モレキュラーシーブをドライヤーで加熱してみました。
モレキュラーシーブ内の水を除去するためです。
（シリカゲルを加熱して再利用するのと同じ話です。）
加熱すると、水がどんどん大量に検出されました。
モレキュラーシーブ内からあふれ出しているようです。
しかし、その後加熱を止めて放置しても中々水のピークは減少しません。
モレキュラーシーブを買い替えなければならないのか・・と思いましたが、
もう一度ドライヤーで1時間以上加熱し、オーブン内も100℃に保ち続けると、水（m/z = 28）は減少していきました。
ベースピークはPFTBA（参照物質, m/z = 6869）に戻りました。
これで無事にGC-MSを使うことが出来ます。
めでたし、めでたし。

Another problem with GC-MS QP 2010 occuered, and I have devoted much time to fix it again. (This article is written in only Japanese.)
こんにちは、日置です。
チッ素(m/z=28)が大量に混入していたという問題です。
何とか解決できたので、その奮闘の記録を残しておきたいと思います。
ただ、また新しい問題が生じているのですが・・・。

WET 2014 conference
6/28-29に早稲田大学でWET2014が開催されました。
WETは水環境学会主催の国際会議です。
WET (Water and Environment Technology) 2014 conference was held at Waseda University last weekend (28-29th June).
本研究室からは博士課程三年のSuthidaさんが発表されました。
見事、「Excellent Poster Award」を受賞されました。
おめでとうございます！！
Suthida san, D3 student from our laboratory, made a presentation about her research.
She won "Excellent Poster Award", Congratulations!!!
Narapong san, exchange student from Thai, also won the same award, and Surapong san , D2 student from Takizawa lab, won "Excellent Research Award".

山本研学部4年生の歓迎会
はじめまして、修士1年の倉鍵です。
ようやくブログを書きました笑
Hello, this is Kurakagi, M1 student from Yamamoto lab.
The first time I wrote this diary.
先週の13日金曜日、新たに山本研に配属が決まった学部4年生3人の歓迎会を開きました。
Last Friday, we held the welcome party for 3 new undergraduate students of our group.
初めて幹事をしたのですが、楽しんでいただけたでしょうか笑
It was the first time I organized the welcome party. I hope they enjoyed it.
彼らはまずは卒論ですが、3人のうち2人が院進学予定でもあるようですし、今後の活躍に期待ですね。
私たちも負けずに頑張り、高めあうことができたらと思います。
They firstly have their graduate thesis tasks and 2 of them are planning to go to graduate school.
I hope they all will succeed in their studies and we'd like to enhance each other up.
ところで、日本よりタイにおられることが多い山本先生ですが、もうすぐ60歳になるということで、せっかくの機会だったので還暦のお祝いも兼ねました。
By the way, we celebrated Prof.Yamamoto's 60-year-old birthday at the same time.
赤ちゃんちゃんこも着ていただきました笑
He put "Aka-chanchanko" on, which is often worn at 還暦 "Kan-reki", a Japanese memorable day of 60-year-old birthday.

FIFA World Cup does not really let me sleep enough for this 1 month.
I watch games almost every night and morning.
Which nation do you think will win the World Cup?
It was unbelievable Espanyol was thoroughly defeated by Netherland.
I feel like I could have gotten a glimpse of "Flying Dutchman."
I was really glad about R. van Persie's activity. Manchester United FC, which he belongs to, is my most favorite team.
Japan was defeated by Cote d'ivoire... really disappointing (;ω;)
